Meet Sensei Ronnie
2nd Degree Black Belt Assistant Instructor
Sensei Ronnie is a 2nd Degree Black Belt with Villari's Studio of Self Defense in Royal Palm Beach, FL. She is also one of our assistant instructors, having completed the Villari's Instructors College, and regularly teaches classes for our pre-schoolers and teens. We sat Sensei Ronnie down to discuss her background in Martial Arts and to ask her what benefits and tips she has for aspiring Black Belts. Here are the results of that conversation.
Sensei Ronnie, how long have you studied the Martial Arts?
I have been with Villari's since Jan. 27, 1999
Why did you begin studying Karate?
It was by fate when I discovered Villari's studio because it was beside the dance school where my daughter took dancing lessons. I needed something to build up my self-esteem, improve my health and energy, meet new friends, and be with my children when we study martial arts.
What motivates you to come to class each week?
I look forward to learning new techniques in self defense, challenge myself to the fullest potential with regards to my physical and mental ability, while training in the dojo with my friends.
Why did you decide to become an instructor?
It was a great honor to be invited to become an instructor. It gave me pride that someone believes in my potential and I myself do my very best. I enjoy seeing and doing things with kids with regards to learning. It has helped me a lot with public relationship and communication, how to behave and what to say, and how to deal with situations.
What benefits do you personally get from studying Karate?
Aside from what I mentioned above, Karate has helped me in my work. I see things now differently by being able to handle things with ease. Physically and mentally, problem solving, and dealing with people of different age groups.
What is the best advice you can give your students?
Believe in themselves. Do their best. Share and listen to ideas of children as well as adults. Don't take things personally and improve themselves to their greatest potential. Exercise regularly and study well. Apply what they learn in the dojo by practicing regularly.
Why should children and adults study Karate?
Because it's good for their well being. It conditions their body, mind and soul. It brings harmony and understanding of themselves in relationship with others.
What goals do you hope to achieve in your training?
I would like to reach that highest potential of being a good and expert martial artists, to be able to perform in any given situation. Therefore to become a black belt is the greatest honor in my life. During my training, I would like to share my experience and learnings of martial arts to those who are willing and interested, and people that need help to be inspired about how they can improve themselves.
